As a life-long follower of rock n’ roll, Robert Garcia’s concert carries audiences away on an audible timeline through rock n’ roll hits, with songs dating back as early as the ‘40s and ‘50s, and as recent as the 2000s.
“People know the words to all these songs,” says Garcia, “even if at first they think they don’t. That’s art of the magic of music.”
Causing a reaction that can only be described as electric, the guitarist/singer/songwriter mines the catalogs of rock artists like Elvis, The Beatles, David Bowie and Rod Steward —among many others– adapting their hits into a fluid soundscape with his ‘weapon of choice’: His 12-string acoustic guitar.
“When I was just a kid in 1972, I heard Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ for the first time and my world stood still for five minutes and forty-one seconds,” Garcia says. “I knew right then and there I wanted to play guitar.”
Since picking it up at 11 years old, Garcia’s sound and style has stirred listeners to grin, clap and join in the movement. That movement has since taken the guitar virtuoso up and down the east coast, and as far as Europe and the Caribbean.
“The exchange of music between people can be a very sacred thing,” said Garcia. “Music moves people, it moves emotions in people. I’ve seen people break down and cry because I performed a song that reminded them of someone they lost, and I’ve seen people spontaneously kiss because I played ‘their song’.
Garcia takes the stage September 30th, 2017 at the Cultural Center in Port Charlotte, FL, leading the crowd through a history of rock n’ roll.
Beginning with classics like “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley, Rob pushes through the decades with ‘60s hits by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan; the ‘70s with numbers by The Jackson 5, Rod Stewart and The Who; the ‘80s with songs by Pink Floyd, Rick Springfield and Prince; the ‘90s with tracks by Nirvana, Extreme, and more; and rounds out the set with 2000’s staples by Outkast, Coldplay, Adele and Pharell.
